Egbert Vongmalaithong is the Retail Manager for the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He comes to the ICA with a wealth of retail experience from online eyewear company, Warby Parker, and lifestyle store, Need Supply Co., where he assisted in the store’s reopening after a major renovation in November 2016. He believes that retail is an opportunity to engage with new and interesting people every day.
As retail manager, Vongmalaithong will manage all aspects of the ICA shop; which includes buying, merchandising, operations, and customer relations. With the opening of the new shop, he’s committed to offering the most relevant publications on contemporary art and envisions a space fueled by community.
Vongmalaithong received his BFA from VCUarts Sculpture and Extended Media program in 2012. While studying at VCU, he had the opportunity to travel to Doha, Qatar as a visiting artist and to workshop ideas on student-run galleries. After graduating, Vongmalaithong joined a modern dance company under the direction of Starr Foster and danced with them until late 2015. He currently continues an independent practice in movement and writing.
