Rachel Southard is the Donor Relations Associate at the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She is responsible for all administrative aspects of development and donor relations activities, including providing support in fundraising activities, stewardship initiatives, and special events.
Southard earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Dance from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University through the Executive M.B.A. program.
With a passion for the performing arts, Southard has been an active member in the local arts community holding different positions, including performance member in several pre-professional companies, instructor and choreographer for multiple local dance and theatre companies, and chair of the dance department at Swift Creek Academy of the Performing Arts.
A native of Richmond, VA, Southard has always felt connected to the city but it wasn’t until she returned that she truly appreciated all that the city and local community had to offer. With a history of working for VCU, Southard has held various positions at the university, including Stewardship Assistant in Development and Alumni Relations, Program Coordinator for Cardiology at VCU Health, and now as the Donor Relations Associate at the ICA.
