Samantha Best is the Curatorial Production Manager for the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). At the ICA, she ensures that the curatorial exhibitions and programs are produced on schedule, on budget, and in support of the ICA’s mission and strategic goals. Best serves as a connector and liaison among key ICA staff as well as external stakeholders involved in exhibition production, and is the lead project manager for curatorial initiatives.
Prior to joining the ICA, Best spent six years as studio manager for artist Sanford Biggers, where she managed his exhibitions and projects at institutions including the Brooklyn Museum, MASSMoCA, and SculptureCenter. She has held curatorial fellowships at The Artist’s Institute and Hunter College Art Galleries, both in New York. She also runs an independent online curatorial project, Tête-à-tête (tete-ahh-tete.net).
Best is currently an MA student in art history at CUNY–Hunter College and holds a BA in art history from VCU (2008).
